Mari (Worldwide FM) x Hastings

Mari is Tokyo’s go to radio producer. Having pioneered J-Wave’s jazz agenda through Shalala, Mari is now one half of music curating project Rejoice and can be found at the heart of most inspiring happenings coming out of Japan’s capital for her column with web magazine ‘Qetic’.

Mari is a frequent visitor to these fair shores from her home in Tokyo and for 120 From® ‘In Transit’ pulls off a stunningly eclectic soundscape for the journey down to the much-loved coastal town of Hastings. Turning back the clock, Mari then presses fast forward into the future with Cibo Matto, Quantic feat Pongo Love, and out onto the open roads with the soothing melodies of Erik Truffaz.

Miles (Wonderfulsound) x Margate and Broadstairs

Miles is one half of The Superimposers and label owner of Wonderfulsound, where to begin? Over the last decade Miles and his merry band have carved out a niche that has rightly received plaudits from across the planet; from sound scores for Port Magazine, through to J-Walk’s recent ‘Off Beat’ long player.

Growing up in the seaside town, Miles’s 120 From® ‘In Transit’ mix embraces the reflective gaze out of the window whilst en route down to Margate and Broadstairs. Draining away the bustle of city life, to grant a new perspective, and to come back fresh. Deeply textured and made with love, we hear the sounds of Washed Out and Simon Lord.

Martyn Ware (Heaven 17) x Southwold and Aldeburgh

Martyn Ware is a cultural icon. There, we said it. Founding member of Heaven 17, responsible for seminal classics such as ‘Temptation’, today we find him in the studio working on Heaven 17’s first album in 14 years. While other bands dropped ‘Karma Chameleon’, Martyn’s band of synthpop prophets delivered a commentary on the world that still rings true today. Alongside his music, Martyn continues to push at the boundaries of audio with trailblazing Internet radio and physical sound-design projects at happenings across the planet.

Martyn kindly gifts us a truly epic 120 From® ‘In Transit’ playlist that defined a generation; no matter what the weather, this will put the sun back into your journey to Southwold and Aldeburgh. Expect magic from Soft Cell, the head nodding worldwide anthem ‘Moskow Diskow’, sitting alongside delights from Blancmange. We roll into our destination with a smile on our faces and our dancing shoes on courtesy of David Bowie. Martyn, we thank you.

KarenP (Folded Wing) x Southend

Southend born, London based KarenP is hands down the most prolific and pioneering face of radio in the UK. Founding her company Folded Wing seven years ago, having produced Gilles Peterson’s much loved ‘Worldwide’ show through its heyday, today her company stands as the torch bearer for the burgeoning independent scene. Oh and she also hooked-up Mulatu Astatke with The Heliocentrics for her mould breaking Broad Casting night, from which classics such as ‘Masenqo’ were born. The rest is history as they say.

Inspired by her trips back home along the A13, KarenP gifts us a 120 From® ‘In Transit’ playlist of personal tracks that remind her of her days growing up in this lively coastal town. From Southend homeboy Danny Break’s ‘The Jellyfish’, through to the mid 90s classic ‘Atliens’ from OutKast. We arrive at our destination richer, warmer, having had a glimpse through her much to be admired record collection.
